The Maserati Quattroporte is a 4-door luxury saloon introduced by Maserati of Italy. There are five versions of the car and all of them are briefly discussed herein.

Quattroporte I (1963–1969)

The Quattroporte I was launched in 1963 and sustained up to 1969. The Quattroporte I was also connected with two considerable grand tourers; the Lagonda Rapide and the Facel Vega that could easily do 124 mph (200 km/h) on the motorways of Europe.

Maserati Quattroporte


It was designed with a 4.1 L (4136 cc/252 in³) V8 engine that could produce 256 hp (SAE) (191 kW) at 5,600 rpm, and was offered with a choice of 3-speed automatic transmission or a 5-speed ZF manual transmission. It claimed maximum speed of 143 mph (230 km/h).

Quattroporte II (1974–1978)

The Maserati Quattroporte II was introduced in 1974 at the Turin Show by the Italian Company. It was included by a modest v6 powertrain that could offer slightly lesser than 210 horsepower and failed to impress most consumers; no wonder it did not survive in the automotive markets too long.

Quattroporte III (Quattroporte 1979–1990, 4porte 1976–1979)

The Quattroporte III was launched in 1976 as “4porte”. It was designed with a 4.2 L engine that could generate 251 hp (SAE) (187 kW) and later it was improved to 238 hp (SAE) (177 kW). It was also produced with a 4.9 litre V8 engine for a good 280 bhp at 5800 rpm. The unique characteristic of the car was its luxurious cabin.

In 1979, it got back again with a 4.9 L and 4.2 L engine for 278 hp (SAE). In 1986, it appeared as the Maserati Royale known as an ultra-luxury edition of the Quattroporte III. The engine was improved to give 295 hp (SAE).

Quattroporte IV (1994–2001)

In 1994, the Quattroporte IV was launched with a powerful 284 hp (SAE) output, and it could attain a maximum speed of 158 mph (255 km/h).

For the local Italian markets, it was produced with a 2.0 L Biturbo V6 engine for the production of 287 hp (SAE), whereas in 1995, it came with a 3.2 L Biturbo V8 engine to develop a greater power level of 330 hp (SAE), and this version had the top-speed of 163 mph.

Quattroporte V (2004 – Present)

The Quattroporte V came in 2004 and it forms the current generation of the Maserati Quattroporte. It was introduced with a 4.2 L engine in coupe body style. It was also delivered in Spider body style too. For 2004, it was upgraded to 400 hp (SAE).

It was showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show in late 2003. It is the end result of diligence of the long standard Quattroporte luxury sedans in the Maserati series.
